Duplication, What is It and How Do You Create a MLM Team That Duplicates Rapidly?
You’ll Never Recruit Your Way to the Top of a MLM Company
Recently I heard from a valued colleague that you’ll never recruit your way to the top of a MLM company. There is a misleading information in online marketing that all you need is enough leads, recruit enough people and you’ll end up in MLM heaven. The truth is, this isn’t true. You can throw a lot at a wall to see what sticks and most the time you’ll be extremely disappointed. There is a phrase in network marketing that goes like this. Width is for show and depth is for dough. One other that I will share here. Duplicate or Die.
Recruiting is Just a Means to Identifying the People Who are Ready Willing and Able Now
Yes, you need to sort, talent scout to discover those who are ready, willing and able however that is where recruiting enough people comes in handy so you teach by example and don’t get into a poverty consciousness in regards to only having a few people in your pipeline. However you don’t want to think in your business building that simply by recruiting enough people you will be successful.
MLM is a People Development Business
We are in the people business and the people development business. So the balance you have to strike is not recruiting a few who happen not to be ready, willing and able now and try to drag them across the finish line. We know this doesn’t work either. The only purpose of recruiting is to identify 1 to 5 who are ready to hit the ground running.
In MLM Get in Front of Your People’s Contacts Quickly
Here’s the key, is getting in front of their decision making people quick enough to help them impart momentum in their businesses. But it doesn’t stop there. We are in a teaching and training business so your job is to teach them now to get in front of their people’s people as quickly as possible with your help.
Duplication is Not Strong Until It Has Gone 4 Generations in Depth
At what point have your truly duplicated. A leg or sales team is not truly duplicated until it has duplicated 4 generations deep. What does this mean ? Until you have taught Joe, to get in front of Sue’s people and then Joe teaches Sue to get in front of her people’s people and Sue then teaches Sam to get in front of his people’s people and Sam has taught Mark to get in front of his people’s people.
Anchor Your Team
Until in one team you see this duplication process being taught, acted upon and continues you do not have true duplication. When this does occur we call this anchoring a team.
Make Sure Your People Understand the MLM Business Model
What does it take to create an environment for this to occur. For clarity most people entering MLM confuse it with Direct Sales and think the business is all about making sales and recruiting people. If this belief and practice permeates your team you will have activity meaning some sales and people coming in but no real duplication taking place.
MLM is a Teaching and Training Business
To create an environment for this to occur, your associates need to understand the network marketing is less of a sales business and more of a teaching and training business. They need to understand the 4 generation rule for anchoring a team. They need to understand the power of leveraged income and the doubling that occurs when duplication occurs.
Peak Interest, Get Them in Front of an Online Video, and 3-way Call
How do you kick this process off. You keep things simple. Your system should simply be peak interest, get your prospect to a tool, usually an online video and then do a 3-way call. Then get them on a conference call and/or webinar for more third party validation.
Have Them Duplicate This Simple System
Once they enroll have them implement this same simple system and commit to doing as many 3-way calls with them as possible. Teach how to open the door and peak interest and then act as the third party outside expert to their contacts. In other words you are getting in front of their people. They will be learning the whole way and soon you will have them doing this for their team members.
Identify 1-5 People to Implement This Duplication Process
You will not get lift off until you have 1 to 5 people who are putting you in front of their contacts, you are teaching them to do this for those they enroll and and continuing this process down at least 4 levels or generations. Why 4 generations, because at this point you can be pretty well assure that the duplication and the system will continue down line.
Sales People Must Learn the MLM Business Model and Become Coachable to Be Successful
We see super sales people who have made a lot of money in other professions come into network marketing, they go out and recruit a lot of people, make a big splash and in a couple of months when their checks is not reflecting all their hard work, they quit and say, network marketing does not work.
This is sad because they had ever opportunity to be successful accept in many cases in the beginning they are not coachable because they are use to do doing it all on their own and the ego can kick in and say, “What do they know, I have been wildly successful in my real estate business.” If they do not reach out for support and allow themselves to be coached they can end up a MLM casualty.
Most Associates Don’t Understand The Duplication Process, Therefore They Can’t Teach It
The other challenge is that most sponsors do not understand the network marketing business model of teaching and training. So they don’t even know enough to implement this simple system with their personal sponsored associates. It is often the blind leading the blind. I also don’t see a lot of network marketing companies effectively teach this whole process. Perhaps pieces but the not the whole process that leads to massive duplication.
3-way Calling is Often Misunderstood, When You Get It Your Business Will Take Off
Most people are reluctant to use 3-way calling at first because they think it is about trying to sell or pressure their friends and/or contacts. It is not, the purpose of the 3-way call is to build relationships and validate what has been shared. Just the process of using the 3-way call shifts the energy and moves a person’s business forward.
