Social Media and Blogging on the Internet Leading to Enlightenment?
Captivating Talk with Dr. Robert Thurman
Social Media, Blogging and Enlightenment in the same sentence? Last night Larry and I were watching the TED Talks (Stands for Technology Education and Development). If you are not familiar with the TED talks they are where the greatest minds in the world come to share innovation in their respective fields. Before I went to bed last night I was blessed to see Dr. Robert Thurman talk about enlightenment developing out of the internet and technology.
Dr. Thurman was speaking to the fact that the truth behind all things is interconnectedness. The internet, social media and blogging is connecting us in a multitude of ways with unlimited potential connections.
The spirit of Social Media and Blogging
The spirit of social media, blogging and the online world is one of a completely open society and free flowing communication that by it’s very nature fosters cooperation and collaboration.
Experiencing Greater Interconnectedness
Experiencing greater interconnectedness with others around the globe does something else, it cultivates compassion. With just a few clicks we can be abreast of someone in a distant culture from our own and know their pain and their joys.
In the Spirit of Collaboration and Cooperation
Because social media is all about collaboration and cooperation of information we are discovering how connected we all truly are. More and more we are receiving information from multiple channels. It is not just information we are receiving, we are connecting on a deeply personal levels and sharing our stories.
Video Makes it Even More Personal
Add video into the mix and we are getting as personal and connected without having to be physically in front of the other person. Except live video streaming. Also, communication is is multi-directional. Meaning there is no longer a top bottom dissemination of information and communication. Everyone is participating in the conversation and the conversations evolve as a result of the potential unlimited number of participants.
The Collective Consciousness
This is collective consciousness becoming self aware as a result of the increasingly interconnected internet we are all participating in. The more we participate the more we become aware of how connected we all are on deeper and deeper levels. It is not just that we realize we are connected but the lines between what seems on the surface to separate us, start to dissolve.
We Are Discovering the Truth of Our Oneness
We are truly discovering that we are ultimately one. Dr. Thurman spoke of the increased opportunity of compassion for others. When you know of another’s pain on a more personal level your ability to feel complete compassion increases.
Goes Much Deeper
I know it goes much deeper than this. As we continue to interconnect on the internet we will experience ourselves much less identified with our ego only but as a self aware aspect of the whole. This is significant. This is the evolution of consciousness being brought about by the interconnectedness that technology and the internet are offering us.
The Chicken or the Egg?
It is the great chicken or the egg riddle. Was it because we were evolving in consciousness that lead to the development of the internet or was it the development of the internet and everything it entails in the way we communicate that evolved our consciousness? My guess is that simultaneously both are true.

Social media and blogging are two interrelated things. You cannot take one away from the other because they the same. By blogging you are building connections and socializing with your readers. Social media emphasizes the same philosophy. Social media is just another term for “virtual socialization” and blogging is just another term for “virtual writing for socialization”

Great article Faith. I work with small business owners teaching them how to leverage the Internet and increase their sales with social media list building. I am always searching for more great information on social media list building because their is always another new angle that is just around the corner and you don’t want to miss it. Again thanks for the great content.

WoW Now this is the stuff I love to read! Being the state of things on Internet marketing is giving, it DOES go into the collective Consciousness. Being that said, like attracts like. It is a win win situation.
Thank you Faith, This is a great post

Faith, my Mentor Les Brown told me that if I’m the smartest one in my group, I need another group. “I’m joining yours”. I see much in your video and blog that tells me I need to step up and get in the game. For some silly reason I never understood the Chicken or Egg thing. Man came first and GOD said go and multiply. I always assumed that Adam told the Chickens and other animals the same thing.
This is age I imagine has the potential to rank right up there with the discovery of fire. Man it is a great time to still have facilities enough to enjoy the ride.

Nelson, so true, we do live in exciting times. You are right on the mark we are in the midst of a huge transformation in consciousness. Like all great opportunities it is having the awareness in the midst of the journey that offers you so much richness in your own personal transformation. The beauty of how this works is the more of us that wake up to our true natures the more others wake up automatically. Yes, I am grateful to have my facilities so I may be a conscious participant in the awakening.
Love your writing Nelson and look forward to reading your Starboard Gunwhale post.

Hello Faith,
Your post is very beautifully written and it brings out a most interesting question. Yes the wave is here and it’s getting bigger, it grows with our own awareness of life and this awareness of life starts with an awareness of who I am as an individual. Each of us being like a piece of a gigantic human puzzle. The spirit of social media, blogging and the online world mirrors an urge to share openly this piece of the puzzle we are whatever field we choose to share. The bigger the vision and the more enlightened we feel …The pieces of the puzzle are coming together … Thank you Faith for surfing so beautifully on the Shift wave.

Yes, we can create anything with our intention and awareness. The key piece for me with Dr. Thurman’s talk was the interconnectedness. It is amazing to experience in real time the immenseness of all of it. It has been said, there is only one of us, experiencing itself as many.

Hi Faith, I like what you said about “In the Spirit of Collaboration and Cooperation”, social media surely flattens out the “vertical” levels, but spread wide horizontally. Hence, we can enjoy the collaboration from all gifts inside of all walks of life! Thank you for sharing!

Blogging is to me sharing our Enlightenment – whatever we are willing to share..my biggest challenge is sharing personal stuff. However I do like how your summarized it all together.

I think it is a balance of revealing your true nature and different aspects of your life without betraying healthy boundaries. It seems conflicting to say free flowing information and then boundaries. However I believe you can be yourself and even share the bad moments or days without dwelling there and share your hope and aspirations and vision of the future. Ultimately we are looking to relate on that deeper level. The days of trying to overly control the message are over.
If we are not honest and straight forward in our marketing and connecting, no one will be listening. The more we connect with others the greater we relate and the stronger our compassion for others becomes.

I think Dr. Thurman’s ideas are close to home. Yet its like every other venue for connectedness in that it rewards participation. I know many people who have resisted social media, saying they don’t get it, or it feels contrived. Again, like every thing, you get out what you put in. Its just that social media has an almost limitless potential to give back, in my opinion.

I couldn’t agree more. You get out of social media what you put into it. The wave is here and only getting bigger. The younger generations have been on the web since birth so there is no turning back, this movement of interconnectedness is only growing stronger and ultimately everyone will feel its impact. It is in our very nature to want to come together.
