Creating a Winning Profile on Facebook

On first glance setting up a great profile on Facebook or any social network may seem pretty straight forward and it is and there are some key points that can enhance your results. First include as much as you can about your interests and values. This helps attract people to you where you both hold common values. This immediately starts out the relationship with a common bond. If you in part hope to expand your business network through Facebook it pays to brand yourself and create a tribe of like minded individuals with common interests who want to connect to you as well.

Do not make your profile a sales page however you can be honest about your passions and interests. You can talk in general in what you can offer to others in terms of marketing and building a stronger business community in your niche. However on your Facebook profile you will want to emphasize your values and interests. This is what people want to know first prior to even considering the possibility of doing business with you.

Your website links can be where they can learn more about you, including your business expertise and what company you may be aligned with. Leaving a bit a curiosity has its merits. If they see you are someone they can relate to they will naturally over time want to know what you do.

What are your passions and strengths and what do you believe sets you apart from others? This becomes your unique offering. Once you have given this some thought distill it down to two sentences. This is all the room you will have below your picture in the block provided by Facebook. There is power in having to compress it down to two sentences. An example is my unique offering says, “Social Media Maven and catalyst for positive change.” Check out other people’s profiles and you’ll get the idea of what you are going after.

Remember your view of your brand may evolve over time so know you can fine tune it as you go along. Below is a video which is a first in series on Facebook covering the key points to consider when setting up your profile. Our next post and video in our Facebook series is networking through groups and fan pages. YouTube Preview Image
