Again my mentor in Internet Marketing has been my husband Larry Pollock. He is self taught Mac geek and has been on the web since the early 90′s. As I have mentioned in several articles, he lead a Rapid Weaver Forum for three years. He donated his time to answer questions about a MAC based software for creating web sites called Rapidweaver. He did this to learn himself and in turn he offered a very valuable service. He supported creating one of the friendliest Forums on the web especially among the more technical communities. The key point of this story is he showed me the power of giving. He knew nothing about the Rapidweaver software when he started, he simply found the best way to learn was to tackle other people’s challenges and discovered in the process, he created skill sets that will serve him for the rest of his life.
As a result of his huge contribution to this community, numerous close friendships and business relationships were formed. Larry created a joint venture with Kevin Burns in Germany who provides consulting and business services to the public sector, internet media, software development and running large scale projects for blue chip companies. As a result of their contributions on the Rapidweaver Forum and developing a relationship on Twitter they went into business together. They came together to fulfill a huge need. There was a need for ongoing training in how to use and customize the Rapidweaver software for creating web sites. They created a subscription service of short and concise point and click video training. Plus, they also now offer Pay Per View (PPV) for those just wanting information on a very specific topic. To learn more about this service go to SupportCasts.
Both Larry and Kevin have different skill sets and as a result they make a perfect partnership. This relationship developed over time so the trust was there when they decided to pursue a joint venture.
My reason for bringing this up here is to show what is possible from being a good internet citizen and the incredible relationships you can create on the web. Larry and Kevin communicate daily on Skype. We are truly living in a global village.
As you develop your niche and business plan for creating your own unique presence on the internet, look for ways you can make a contribution. Also, as you get to know others on the web look for those who have skills, contacts that you don’t, and where you could be complementary to each other. This can be a lot of fun. It all goes back to the givers gain. Look to give first and you will attract the perfect people to collaborate with.
Networking on or off the web creating the perfect environment for Joint Ventures to naturally occur. Some of these joint ventures can turn into new businesses. Stay open and alert to the myriad of possibilities. Also, know sometimes they do not work out or they may only be short term projects and that is perfect. Sometimes a joint venture is only meant to serve a temporary need and you have to be open to be flexible and adapt as necessary. That is the beauty of a joint venture, you can be flexible making adjustments to the changing market place.
As you perfect your marketing mind set (this is an ongoing process) your creativity will grow. Don’t worry if you have no idea what your niche is right now or what you can offer. It will become ever more apparent as you continue your journey into internet marketing. Just stay in the game, keep learning and reading and most important, apply what you learn. Everyone has a story to tell and something valuable to offer. Allow your own unique genius to emerge. While you go move through your steps look for ways you can contribute and your world will truly become your oyster.
