When asking someone who is building a network marketing business who their target market is, you will often hear “Everyone”. I know in our own minds when we believe in our products and opportunity, we truly believe that our market/audience is everyone. However, when you target everyone, very few people can find you. Narrowing your focus actually renders much better results.
I was a member of BNI Business Network International and in their networking training classes they emphasized narrowing your market when asking for referrals. An example would be when you market a health product and asking for referrals instead of saying everyone who would like to be healthy, ask if people know fitness trainers who are health conscious or moms who want to provide a healthier lifestyle for their families.
Having been actively marketing products and services for over 20 years, I know when I was young in the business I was amazed when someone wasn’t interested. I can recall spending too much time with the wrong people. In retrospect I can see how much time I wasted working with the wrong audience. This is a common refrain in network marketing. Chasing the wrong people is often what gives our industry a bad reputation. It frustrates our friends and acquaintances and distributors alike.
What you will learn in this article is to step outside all this craziness and market the way the professionals and established companies have marketed for years. You will learn how to market like a Fortune 500 company but on a shoe string budget. We’ll cover some simple and essential steps to hitting your target market. You will learn how to assess your goals which will help you define your primary target market. You will understand the importance of understanding your target market needs and aspirations and as a result offer them information and resources that help your audience solve problems and move towards their goals. You will have a clear picture in your mind of what you are really selling. All this will help you zero in on the best key words to bring your audience to you and how to link it up so you are found on the web.
Not only will you experience more success you will have more fun in your business. Your family and friends will appreciate that you are running your business in a professional manner and may even be more open when you are not chasing them to join your business.
I wished I knew what I’m imparting to you now because I would have had success much earlier in my career move to Network Marketing. I did learn early on that I was in the sorting business not the selling business. However, it often took quite a commitment from me to take people through our system from the initial phone call, in person appointment, conference call, 3-way call to have them meet my sponsor or upline, book them to a company event, only to have them fizzle out or express that they really were not interested. Often this would happen with friends who didn’t want to disappoint me so they would go through the sales process only to let me know at the completion that it wasn’t for them. Thanks to internet network marketing, we can find the people who are looking for us.
What if you started with people that were already looking for what you have to offer? How exciting is that?
We will cover:
How to determine your target market that will give you the best leverage for your business.
It is important to have a clear vision of your goals and what you want to accomplish with your business. If you have had life changing experience on your products and are looking to beef up and grow your customer base, then starting off with an educational approach to the benefits of your product category, whether it be insurance, travel, nutrition etc. You would focus on the general benefits of your product or service and not be marketing initially to your specific product or services.
Impart your knowledge of health by sharing tips that can enhance your audiences lives. An example would be the use of a shower filter because our largest organ is our skin thus unfiltered shower water exposes us to toxins on an ongoing basis. Share how easy it is to prepare healthy nutritious meals would be another example. Find within the subject category in this case health and nutrition, your passion and share from that position.
Go on the web and do research on the audience you are targeting. Look at what is innovative and happening in the news within area you are focusing on. Provide resources through linking to other related materials and to other articles or videos you may have on the web. Relevant linking will also provide you additional exposure through the search engines.
Share your story and your passion
This is what will set you apart from others. What is unique to you. Your values and life experiences. Share from the heart and you will naturally attract those who you can relate to you and want to do business with you.
Attracting Business Partners
If you are wanting to attract business builders out of the gate then you need to not only sell the benefits of network marketing but provide information that will meet their most pressing needs. Can they make money in Network Marketing and how do they generate targeted qualify leads for their business?
Everyone in business for themselves want to know how they can attract people who are looking for that they have to offer. They are often looking for mentorship and a proven training system. The introduction of the Renegade Professional has provided an invaluable tool for all of us entrepreneurs who are now delving into internet network marketing. Renegade Professional is the most compete point and click training available.
When you provide tips on how to lead generate, offer mentorship and offer the Renegade Professional training program to your audience you are elevating yourself to a whole new level. Remember you do not need to know everything to share what you are learning. If you sharing freely and frequently through articles, your blog and/or web site, videos, Twitter you will get found and you audience will be appreciative and will respond in kind.
Creating Relationships first, Selling Second
You may have heard this before however it bears repeating over and over. You must do this in earnest. I have noticed on Twitter and other social networking sites on the web a superficial level of service being rendered however I often see a very cursory attempt of providing value first and creating a connection prior to coming on with a strong sells pitch. If you really seek out by connecting, listening and then providing valuable information first, sales will be a natural by product. Do the right thing by others, success will surely follow.
What does your customer or business prospect think about, what are their concerns, goals and aspirations? What problems can you solve for them, what resources can you provide? Can your relate to your target market and do you have compassion for your target market?
Marketing “You Inc.”
What are you selling? What does your marketing need to do first? You need to market yourself. Share your story and your passions in life. Your life experience is your best asset. You view your world through your unique lens will set you apart. Establishing a relationship with your audience is the first step in creating trust. Only when there is trust and authentic connecting can you create a business that will last.
Key Words, what are they and why are they so important to targeting your audience?
Key words are the words that your target audience would be typing in to find information that will solve a problem or provide education or helping them in their decision making process.
If you are promoting a network marketing business you would want to use words in your content, tags, and throughout your web site or blog that your target audience would be typing in when they are searching for information that is pertinent to network marketing. An example if you want to focus your marketing on those who are building a network marketing business or looking to get involved in a network marketing opportunity, then you would not focus on just words that relate to a home based business. You would want to be more specific in your key words.
A great tool to see what key words are being used to and how much for your target audience is Free Key Word Tracker.
Freekeywords.wordtracker.com
An example was when I put in MLM, it was coming up less than 20 times per day where Network Marketing was coming up over 800 times per day. Remember these numbers are not always exact but give valid averages which will help you more effectively market to your audience. Of course the more competitive the key word the harder it can be that your blog post, video will be found. You are balancing in picking key words that people are typing in to the search engines and yet give you an opportunity to be found on the web.
Think of it this way. You are looking to express yourself as a niche within niche. Internet Network Marketing is a niche however it is very competitive. However, to narrow it down a bit further you could put the key word phrase in an article of internet network marketing in Arizona or network marketing in Arizona. Now you have a greater opportunity to dominate over time that key word phrase. You could set it up that over the course of your marketing you are placing that key word phrase targeting different geographic areas.
Your sweet spot on searches using Google Key Word Tool is 150,000 searches. If you can get it down to 50,000 searches even better. Also, the use of video will often get your higher rankings in your marketing. You will perfect this process over time. The more you identify your authentic niche the more you are going to stand out from the crowd. Remember this is a process of discovery so commit to the process and trust it.
Marketing on a Budget has never been easier.
Since the increase popularity of social networking on the web and more and more people now go to the web first to do research and make their buying decisions, we all have an unique opportunity to carve out a presence on the web at a fraction of the cost. The key to maximizing your exposure on the web and keeping it low cost is to take a multi-prong approach. I really believe you need a hub for your points of contact on the web. What I mean here are places you can be found on the web. Start with a blog, it is easier and quicker to set up over a web site. Also, blogs are well received by the search engines because the search engines are looking for new and fresh content. Blogs by their very nature are journals that you can easily add to on an ongoing basis.
All your other points of contact on the web should always link back to your blog. From your blog you can lead your audience to a lead capture page. You can then fully develop several social networking venues. Facebook is the largest social network on the planet and Twitter is now the fastest growing social network and you want to be on both. You may already be on Facebook and Twitter then your next step is creating your blog.
Your blog is how your audience will come to know you and is the perfect tool to stay in front of your audience. Video personalizes the process like nothing else can over face to face marketing. Set up an account on youtube and again link back to your blog. Put your videos on your blog as well. Squidoo is another excellent social networking and information sharing web site. I recommend you link back and forth between your profile and articles on Squidoo to your blog.
As you learn about your web marketing tools, try then out and over time you will narrow down to the reach out methods that work the best for you on the web. Over time you may get involved in joint ventures with others and each person will bring their own particular strengths to the table allowing you to focus on what you do best.
From this article you have learned you don’t have to spend a lot of money to market like a Fortune 500 company attracting prospects to you who are looking for what you have to offer. You know the importance of using key words in all your marketing that speaks to your target audience. The most important thing you are selling is yourself and your brand. It is your uniqueness as a person that will separate you from the pack. You look to give before you get and you focus on connecting and meeting the needs of your audience. In sharing what is unique about yourself, you passionately share your story creating connection and trust. Getting clear on your vision and goals of your business help you better define your ideal target market.
Remember you are creating your own web of contact points on the world wide web. Start with your blog and link to your profiles on Facebook and Twitter and other social networking communities.
